Don’t put off re-certification! Read-on!
I recieved a call today from a client of ours whose compliance has lapsed because of high administrative turn over. It’s been over 2 years since we have trained their drivers, and today there was an exposure incident. The company has been providing pick up and delivery of inter-office mail, charts, x-rays, etc., for a large group of medical offices, but no medical specimens or biohazardous products, until today. One of the drivers was asked by one of the clinics to transport a bag of dirty needles back to the main office for disposal. Not knowing any better, the driver agreed, and consequently suffered a needlestick injury from a needle that punctured the bag.
Unless they can track the specific needle to a specific patient and ascertain his or her HIV/HBV status, the driver may have to undergo extensive post exposure vaccinations, and may have contracted a life threatening illness. The kicker is, this company is scheduled for re-certification through Integrity within the next few days.
Please, if you are a current client of Integrity Medical Courier Training, don’t put off your yearly re-certification. Make sure your drivers have the training they need each and every year to minimize the risk of exposure incidents like this one. Their very lives could be at stake, as well as your livelihood.
